Corozal Town
Located 2 hours from Belize International airport is Corozal Town.
This town is bordered North by Mexico which offers a culture charm like no other.
Corozal was once a private estate before becoming a town in the 1840s, mostly settled by Maya Mestizo refugees from the Caste War of Yucatán.
Traditional food for the Yucatec Mayas has been the same for many centuries. The main staple is corn tortillas, which are supplemented with beans, chiles, chicken, and pork. The rural villages of the remaining Yucatec Mayas in Belize have houses made with thatched roofs and plastered limestone exteriors.
Experience firsthand the rich culture of The Yucatec Mayas. Ranging from a visit to The Corozal House of Culture, tasting authentic Dishes, seeing traditional dance performance, exploring traditional Yucatec Maya Houses, and spending a day for a diversity of Arts in the central park. This exhibition and mini music festival, known as Art in the Park is where Artists congregate to display their wares, with paintings, photography, woodwork and more. Music is performed live or piped in over the loud speakers and the whole town comes alive.
Let Belize Culture Travel tailor your itinerary to this region one of the most fascinating homes of Yucatec Mayan Culture.
